A countdown shows you how much time is left until a set time or an event like your birthday, a holiday, the New Year, or Christmas.
What Is the Date Countdown Timer?
The date countdown timer is a free and simple online tool that shows how much time remains until a set date in the future. The time counts down in your browser tab, making your wait more exciting.

How Do I Use the Online Countdown Timer?
- Click the box to set the date and time for the future event, or choose a preset.
- Give your countdown a name (optional).
- Click Start to begin the countdown, and Stop to end it before it sounds.
When the countdown is running, it shows the number of days, hours, minutes, and seconds until your event. An alarm sounds when the countdown reaches zero.
The countdown uses its own URL (web address). Click the share icon in the top right corner to share your link with friends and family or save it to return to later.
Countdown timer settings
Click the settings icon (gear) top right to customize the countdown display:
- Change the time zone
- Toggle dark mode on and off
- Show or hide the event name, seconds, and date and time zone
- Switch to mirror mode (useful for video recording, teleprompting, or reflective displays)
- Change font color and size
How Do I Add a Countdown Clock to My Website?
A countdown clock is great for building excitement and urgency around special offers and events. To add a countdown clock to your website:
- Click the "< >" icon in the top left corner of this page.
- Optionally, adjust the size of your embedded countdown. The timer at the bottom shows how it will look.
- Choose the time zone and the year, month, day, hours, minutes, and seconds to count down from.
- Copy the embed code to the clipboard and paste it to your website.
