What Is the Timezone Converter?

The Timezone Converter lets you quickly compare the current time in cities and time zones around the world. Use it to schedule international meetings, keep in sync with friends abroad, or whenever you need to see the time in multiple locations.

How Do I Use the Timezone Converter?

You can use the converter in two different modes.

  • Live: See the current time in your selected time zones.
  • Planner: Set a date and time and see what it looks like across all your time zones: perfect for scheduling meetings and calls.

You can also switch between views.

  • Cards: See time zone details on separate cards, and easily drag and drop cards to reorder zones.
  • Timeline: See time zones in a horizontal strip with all 24 hours side by side, which is the easiest way to find the best meeting time across time zones.

Add, edit and reorder time zones

By default, the converter shows your local time zone and UTC.

To add more zones, click Add timezone and search for

  • Country name
  • Time zone name (city)
  • Time zone abbreviation (e.g., EST, PST, CET, GMT, IST, JST, ...)

Click Edit to reorganize your list or remove zones.

  • Use the drag handles or arrows to reorder time zones.
  • Click any pin to set the time zone as the reference time (Reference). The reference time moves to the start of the list, and all the time differences in Cards view are calculated relative to that time.

Share times

The page URL updates automatically with your time zones and changes. Copy the URL to send someone a link that opens the same time zones you are viewing.

Change view settings

Click the settings icon to customize your view. You can toggle between dark and light mode and show or hide country flags, time zone names and other data.

What Is UTC?

UTC stands for Coordinated Universal Time, a scientifically precise time standard used to coordinate time around the world.

UTC is often confused with GMT (Greenwich Mean Time), but there are some differences.

  • UTC is a standard, not an actual time zone. It's based on a precise measurement made by atomic clocks. Each time zone in the world is defined by its UTC offset, or how many hours it lies ahead or behind UTC. Many Internet and web standards use UTC as their reference point.
  • GMT is a time zone historically based on the position of the sun at a point in Greenwich, UK. GMT's offset is UTC+0, so the time in this zone is the same as UTC time.

Some common UTC offsets are

  • UTC-05:00/06:00 (US Eastern/Central Time)
  • UTC+01:00/02:00 (most of Europe)
  • UTC+08:00 (China)
