What Is the Age Calculator?

The age calculator answers the question "How old am I?" by calculating the time period between your date of birth (starting date) and an end date (automatically set to today). You can also calculate age for any future date or past date.

The age calculator includes the results in a table showing how old you are in different time units:

  • Age: Broken down into years, months, and days between two dates you entered
  • Age in Years: Your precise age in years (with decimals)
  • Age in Months: Total full months since birth (with decimals)
  • Age in Weeks: Your age converted to weeks (with decimals)
  • Age in Days: Find an answer to "How many days have I been alive"
  • Age in Hours: Find an answer to "How many hours old am I"
  • Age in Minutes: Find an answer to "How old am I in minutes"
  • Age in Seconds: Find an answer to "How many seconds have I lived"
  • Days Until Birthday: Remaining days until your next birthday

Also, clicking on the days until birthday result takes you to a birthday countdown page.

How to Calculate Age Manually

To determine a person's age without a calculator, you need the birth year and current year. However, calculating exact chronological age requires accounting for months and days. Most Western countries use this method to determine current age:

  1. Note today's date (day, month, year)
  2. Note the date of birth (day, month, year)
  3. Subtract the birth year from the current year
  4. If the current month is before the birth month, or if it's the same month but the current day is before the birth date, subtract 1 from the result
  5. The result is the age in years

Note that age is counted differently in various cultures. Some Asian countries traditionally consider a baby to be 1 year old at birth rather than 0. Leap years can also affect calculations. Therefore, to compute exact age, it's more practical to use this age calculator.
